The MLPA merely sets aside areas and dictates what level (if any) of recreational and commercial take is allowed in that area.
It is trawling and other commercial practices inside the areas that remain open that really need to be addressed, and that is what the MLMA (Marine Live Management Act) - as opposed to the MLPA - is attempting to address. Don't think for one instance that the MLPA will resolve this issue. We also need to be watchful of what goes on with the MLMA issues as well.
