While the springy things can somewhat make up for wetsuit compression, they usually do not keep the belt very tight. The reason for wanting tightness is to reduce movement and slipping.

The this is a potential problem for guys with small butts. They (small butts) do not hold the weight belts on when vertical (like at the surface or after a giant stride entry). Some guys like me with big butts have another problem -- a bigger belly. This allows the front of the belt to drop below the belly and then slip gracefully over the butt. Experince fixes all this stuff as guys like me tighten up and adjust their belts during the dive without much thought. Guys with those nifty suspenders really have the right idea!

But when it is all said and done, I still prefer weight integration.
