Maciek's suggestion of taking your questions to the Northern CA lists is a really good idea. There's a lot more diving discussion and a lot less egotism on those lists than on most others. I surf a few lists for fun, but go to ba_diving when I have a serious question. I asked a similar question comparing bp/harness systems to my current bc recently and got a half dozen or more well-considered responses from people who dive in our conditions.
BTW. There's going to be an equipment demo day by Manta Ray dive shop and BAUE in Monterey at the Breakwater this Saturday. They're going to have different setups available to try out in the water. It starts at 10. I'm going to be there.
