Best Mix sounds like an agency term.
If you're carrying only one deco bottle, carry 50. If two, 50 and 100. This is not situation dependant. This is the way to do deco. 36 is not a substitute for 50. Forget what the program says. You want the Window effect at the intermediate stops and you want a gas that'll get you out if your 100 fails. 50 does both. 36 does neither.
If you're carrying more than two, or having one or more delivered to you, the efficacy depends on the depth/time issues. Staging deco bottles at the MOD in a cave is easy. In the open ocean it's another matter. In the ocean you need to weigh the cost benefit of more gear. If the only way to keep the hang reasonable is to take half the dive shop with you, do you really want to do that dive?
