I'm looking to purchase a speargun to hunt off the beach and off the channel islands. Targets would include halibut, lingcod, and the various fish off the beaches here in LA (kelp bass, opaleye, perch, etc).
Can anyone give me some guidance on what to look for? How do the various brands (JBL, Riffe, etc.) rank in terms of quality? Wood vs Aluminum? Should the type of gun depend on what your hunting? I realize a longer gun will give you more distance accuracy, but I'd be interested to learn other nuances from some experienced hunters.
