Since this is a pretty complicated subject, one distiction should be made ther are two types of tocicity. Pulmonary and CNS, what most of us worry about is the short term CNS. Divers that die usually seize, become tonic lose the reg from there mouth and drown. I am just trying to say the CNS hit in most cases is the predisposing factor of drowning. I do not know if you can say the increased partial pressure is what kills you. Of course pulmonary toxicity is a whole other thing.
