Spam is any commercial email you did not ask to receive.
A good defintiion can be found at http://www.mail-abuse.org/standard.html , http://www.monkeys.com/spam-defined/ , and http://www.cauce.org/about/faq.shtml#how
If some one takes your name from a web site with a email harverster and then sends you email you don't want... that is spam.
You should not have to opt-out, any such email is by definition spam.
Sending unwanted email is bandwidth theft and should never be tolerated!
My server diver.net rejects a spam message about every 45 seconds.
Rejecting them uses bandwidth I must pay for.
Accepting them would use even more.
