California law states that mass emailings need to have "adv" in the subject line. That allows folks to set their mail program to delete all incoming messages with "adv" in it.
Another requirement is to have a valid method to be removed from future mailings.
I've been known to go to extroardinary lengths to rain on a spammer's parade, even to the point of billing them for mail handeling & filing a small claims action. (messes up their credit rating, and sometimes even brings in some cash).
Your asking about the topic indicates that you are considerate, so you'd be safe from my mischief making, at least for a little while.
I'd go with the banner ads, they're fairly cheap & get better results than emailing.
