I freedive a set of Gara black blades. I can hunt comfortably at 60', hit 80', and hope to do a touch dive beyond 100' soon. There are guys in CENCAL that comfortably go below 120' regularly.

I guess I don't understand why anyone would think that large blade freediving fins are for shallow water. I'd say they're more appropriate for deeper work.

I dive my Garas with two pair of socks. A thin 2 mil pair that go in the foot pockets, and a 5 mil pair with the toes cut out that I push down over the entire foot pocket. It basically locks the fins onto my feet. If you haven't tried this, you should. It's a real bear to get on (especially on the diveboard), but the security and added power is amazing. The easiest way I've found to get the outer pair on is to roll them up past my ankle, put the fin on, and then roll them back down. There's some entertainment trying to get the heel over, but it gets easier with practice.
