Monterey diving can be challenging in some places. Conditions include water temps in the mid-forties to low fifties, dense kelp in some areas, and viz that can range from over 50 ft to less than 5 ft. There are many shore and boat sites that range from beginner to extreme. Make sure that you contact someone who is knowledgeable not only about local diving, but also about introducing divers to local sites.
