The cheap gear seems to be very reliable, too. That is the problem. There are not clear cut differences in the detectable performance and reliability between the cheap and the expensive. And wasn't just a year or so ago that those fancy titanium regs were recalled because of a spring problem? How many had trouble before they were pulled back and corrected?

I think it is not reasonable to credit your or my expensive gear reliability experience with the price/brand. As I said, I do not hear of cheap regs crapping out during a dive either(ignoring such things as freeflows from sand and such).
