Ok. So how much air can the Mares provide at 4 ATM? Can you overbreath one at 100? Have you tried? And as for regulator induced CO2 buildup with exertion, I think you are off a bit in the logic. The exertion/CO2 buildup is not a function of inhalation rate. In other words, if I get into a problem at depth and am struggling physically and panting from a super deluxe unit, I will still buildup excessive CO2.

You see, the problem is in the definition of the dive. I have sucked hard (Fast Inhale) off some of these "low performers" and at RECREATIONAL depths they still are OK with reasonable air pressure in the tank. Would I do a deep, challenging dive with one? No. But a normal recreational diver doing local recreational dives will not either. The majority of divers will be served well by the majority of regulators on the market. If they are doing deep, technical dives, they should have appropriate gear. That gear must include good regs (including the one on the bailout bottle), a good BC, a good weight system, a good buddy, a perfect attitude, and a good plan.

The typical diver at the casino point park, for example, tooling around at 30 - 75 fsw does not NEED the additional flow and cannot use the additional flow of a wonder-reg.
