Since I completely disagree with this point, I don't think we are going to agree too far. It being an advancd skill is likely to be true, but I think that is why divers are generally considered less skilled than they used to be.
As I said, beach diving teaches one to expect the unexpected as well as body and gear control. Learning entries, especialy in tough conditions teaches a confidence that boat diving will not provide. Beach dive much and you learn panic control and you learn the ocean.
I don't off hand remember a boat dive where I felt threatened and I go fun places. I remember beach dives that are forever impressed on my mind. It is beach diving that taught me the skills I most respect in myself.
Most boat diving just makes a Florida diver.
I suspect we just think differently about diving. I think your post title says your whole opinion.
