Wow, I never thought of it like that. I have to reluctantly agree.
Having spent the last weekend Hawking the Cabrillo Lobster (BEACH) Dive, I ran into a LOT of people who only warm water boat dive. This got me to thinking about my 12 person OW class. My Wife and I are the ONLY ones who continued. They all hated the beach. Even I, a vetran surfer, floundered in the kneeslappers.
Now I have done 50 dives. Only 2 were off a boat. 30 were night dives. Go figure.
I Do cherish beach dives, but if it lessens the spirit of SCUBA in people... go ahead and stick it in a cave.

PS. I get a charge out of lumbering out of the Redondo Canyon at like a neoprene Godzilla 9:30 PM, only to run into a family doing an evening stroll along the bike path. The kids eyes grow big and they say, "Hey Mister, did you just come out of the ocean?"
Yup!
Suddenly you, your tank and all that rubber are the most coolest thing ever.
