Ken: I still take my students to the beach. Usually on dives one and two. I sit with them and teach them about the surf and then we do some entries without equipment only wetsuit and with the equipment. I feel it is to thier advantage as divers in S. California to know and learn this. However I also take into consideration the physical make up of my students and surf conditions as well as the location I pick. If the surf is to big well then they just get some surf training and some compass training on land and I will move the dives to a boat. Either way my students end up on the beach during some portion of the class besides I love it too. Beach diving was a big portion of my basic eduaction right there at Shaws Cove many years ago. Now I usually go to Crescent Bay as they have some facilities for the less adventurous. Love this topic.
