My OW1 was at a lake. Crystal clear and beautiful.

AOW was 4 beach dives and 2 boat dives. Beach conditions then in the fall of the year were fairly clear and the kelp forest here in California was beautiful. Navigation and night diving was the main beach activity.

Kelp forest kept me coming back.

Rocky reefs keep me coming back now.

Especially deep, pristine rocky reefs, and pillars, with sea anemones on them like fields of underwater daisys.

If the beach is flanked on either or both sides by a rocky boundary, that usually indicates a beautiful underwater seascape.

If a beach site has nearby pillars and wash rocks, that is a big draw. Rocky reefs and underwater grottos are normally nearby.

No seasickness, no diesel fumes, no crowding on deck, no DMs and crew hollering instructions, no stinky greasy food smells from the galley, nobody gawking at you and asking to be your diving buddy.
