I am the owner of the dive shop in question, Scuba Schools of America in Woodland Hills. The issue is simple: we believe that the safest and most competant diver is one who is well is equipped in gear that fits the individual well. Familiarity with one's own equipment, starting during the initial training, will make a better, more comfortable, and ultimately a happier diver.
Additionally, if none of you have heard, the economy is tight these days and for a small dive shop to stay in business, equipment must be sold. Our apologies to anyone who is offended by our desire to help them have more enjoyable diving experience or to be well equipped. We have always extended and continue to extend the highest quality service to all of our clients regardless of whether they purchase equipment or not.
Unfortunately, some of our former instructors believed that selling equipment in a retail dive store was not a proper activity. I appreciate their position, but unfortunately, if we do not promote to our customers the advantage of owning their own equipment, we will not be in business to provide services to the community.
You can count on Scuba Schools of America to be committed to providing the highest quality service and continuing support for all of your diving needs! We do appreciate the patronage!
