I have an eTrex Vista (same basemap, I think) and
I don't think the base map is very detailed at all.
Garmin has TWO sets of nautical CDs. Waterways
and Lights gets you the whole country at low res.
BlueCharts gets you one section (Eureka to
Cabo San Lucas and then some) at high res, but
updates real slow because it takes forever to
shade in the depth contours, at least on my 162
(I haven't unlocked the BlueCharts for the Vista).
The BlueCharts look just like NOAA charts.
You can preview Waterways and Lights and Topo on
Garmin's website, but not BlueCharts.
