I reccomend you try out several boats, if you are new to CA diving then perhapse you should go out on a few one-day trips to different locations, see what you like and dont like about boats out here and the know-it-all divers that go with them.
Some boats are pricey, and the food is greasy and terrible on most of them. A lot of them give you about a 1 foot square area to put your dive gear and you spend most of your time tripping over the egos scattered about the deck.
Please form your own opinions, try out several different boats with different itineraries.
