Just received a letter from Ca. DFG stating:
"... effictive 12:00 am Monday July 29, 2002, the sport fishery for cabezon (Scorpaenichthys marmoratus) will be closed for 2002 or until further notice"
This prohibition is in effect for the entire state of California.
Reasons cited include the fact that in the first six months of this year, approx. 68,000 lbs. of cabezon were landed by sport anglers in comparison to 39,000 lbs. for the same period in 2001. DFG expects that the sport allocation of 84,330 lbs. to be reached by the time of the July 29 closure.
