I'm just asking...I've read long posts on this board by persons who dive in caves in Mexico for great distances. It seems to me that the same skill set could contribute towards saving lives in this instance.

Yes, there are dangers - that usually doesn't stop divers, who tend to be of the sort that calculate their risks and take appropriate precautions. If there are any coal miners posting here who can tell us why it wouldn't work, I'll be grateful.

I can't be the first one to think of this - any reason why it wouldn't work? If I had the training and the gear, and thought it could be done, I'd volunteer. Since I don't, I thought I'd ask the question.
