You can check the boat schedule for places like Cortez Bank, Sta Barbara Is (Arch, Rookery), any of the San Clemente (west end is awesome) trips as well as the more accessible Anacapa (West End and coral reef are my favs) and Catalina (Bird Rock, Ship Rock, Black Rock Eagle Reef, Blue Caverns, and Italian Gardens for giant sea bass) sites.
San Miguel (Tyler Bight, Crook Reef..it's all good) is tops and so are parts of Sta Cruz, such as the Scorpion Anchorage area. By all means, hit the oil rigs if you can, both the ones off of Huntington Beach as well as the platforms off of Sta Barbara.
KEn Kurtis (even tho the scalawag doesn't allow nitrox), Sea Divers, Sea Sons, Dive & Surf and the Great Escape Open Boats will all get my repeat business.
