With the Marc Sosnowski case down here in San Diego (which admittedly was a second offense), the City Attorney's Office got A LOT of community letters and it most definitely got their attention.
I can't say how this being a first offense will affect that dynamic, but our experience is that lots of POLITE community letters made a huge difference.
