The only site that comes to my mind where fins-on for entry makes any sense would be where a giant stride entry is needed. That would be either at a rocky shore drop-off entry or off a boat.

In any other case, any beach, any slope, any surf, rough or mild, I would opt for fins-off.

I think the best way to teach fins-off entries is to teach divers in the pool to get good at removing and putting back on their fins, both fins together, not one at a time, while floating on their backs, in the deep end.

I see a lot of new divers who were taught the fins-on shuffling beach method, and then they are afraid to try fins-off, and somehow even though they have done it several times in the pool or at the float, they cant seem to get their fins on during an entry. It makes no sense why this should be such a big problem for them.

So that is why I believe MsBluCow is completely right. Fins off run like hell. AB-solutely.
