you might be a tad bit overweighted ;-)
For PASSING THROUGH the surf zone, I think the BC should be totally empty. With mask on and reg in mouth, you can duck or dive into a wave successfully. Once past the surf zone, inflate the BC so that you can don your fins if you decided to carry them.
