Much of it wasn't directed at you. For a long time I've seen some advocate that people shouldn't be diving at site X because it will destroy the sport, blah blah blah. My going out to the Farallones provoked that odd response. That mind you, was a great trip that in theory I with my 40 dives had no business being on. Hence my objections to any barriers to entry.
When I came down to dive the Moody in 99, first meeting Terry in person, along with Mike and Troy, I brought 80s with 27%. We got skunked, so instead I did oil rig dives to the same depths - 143, or 25 feet above the floor - so I could experience a bit of the issues. Got some nice metridium pics at the depth too.
I wouldn't use a 50, but then again, I'm usually in the 190s. A woman half my size has the potential to get by with a lot less.
