At La Jolla Cove, parking can be a pain, but there is a parking garage just a short walk away (you can drop off you gear at the park first).

At La Jolla, if you leave the bottom of the steps closest to the street and swim on a 30 degree heading toward the yellow bouy, about 50 yards short of the bouy you will come to a band of kelp. Dive down here and continue on your 30 degree heading. With luck you will come upon a grooming station where small fish clean the parisites off of Giant Black Sea Bass. When I was there I saw about 12 circling. It was great, as was the 2 blue sharks we spotted on the dive out and back in again.

La Jolla Cove has kelp, rock reefs, sand bottom what ever you want to explore. There are even some caves to explore (one can be entered from the shell shop).
