Must be such a hassel to be the only intellegent person who dives. But at least that way, you always know where to place the blame. I'm dumb enough to have stopped trusting dive shops and boats to deliver rental equipment, or functioning rental equipment, and always bring my own. I'm even dumb enough to check my gear before I pack it for a trip to make sure everything is in working order. And I'm such a moron, I carry extra film and spare battries for cameras, strobes, flash lights and my computer. The biggest problem though, is I keep being an a-hole, and giving them away to people how don't check their equipment.
