just cleaned three of them. in a plastic bucket put enough water to cover the shell, then add muriatic acid (slowly) to get about 15%-20% acid:water. Let is sit for about 20 minutes. Take out and clean the scale off. don't force it. Repeat as necessary and then put the shell into a solution of water and baking soda to neutralize the acid.
