. . . But what if the DM sets unreasonably short gate times, to the point where you can do two dives on one air fill? And what if you mistakenly thought the "be back" time was 1/2 an hour later (because you incorrectly thought no one would ever schedule such short dives), and you upset the poor DM . . . ?

Just joking Ken.

And to Alex: The reality of it is, we all have our own ideas of what constitutes "Diving Freedom" and what might seem restrictive to one person might not be a problem for the next diver. In the end, if somebody else owns the pool, you have to play by their rules. That's why you check these things out ahead of time. If the rules are unacceptable, you go play with someone else. However, I've usually found that if you demonstrate a certain level of comfort and ability, and are diving with the same DM every day, they will usually relax some of the restrictions -- as long as you don't make a big public stink about it.
