Speaking of less invasive approaches, I read yesterday that some commercial fisherman in the northwest are using recordings of Orcas to chase off the sea lions. Apparently this approach has been very successful too. I also saw that one can purchase hydrophones for as little as $200. Probably not much more than a rifle and a box of rubber bullets.
