The problem with dictionaries is that they report what words are in use rather than what words should be in use. nearly a century of using the wrong term (Santa Ana)has caused that wrong term to become accepted by the unwashed masses and documented in the dictionary.
I think we see more of this here in California because of our state's Mexican heritage. Before us Gringos took over, all the names were in Spanish. Now we mixing the languages with words that sound similar and familiar. Santana and Santa Ana sound similar and Santa Ana is a place and therefore recognized as an "English" word. What a mess. It does go well with the efforts to dumb down education in schools and dive agencies, though...
