Used mefloquin (sp?) when I was in Africa, which from what I'm told is one of the nastier, more powerfull ones. I took it weekly. I thought about stopping, but I was in Mombasa for quite a while, and that's malaria central.

Pretty much all the anti-malarials have the same side affects of messing with your dreams. The daily ones less so because the dosages are lower. I never ate anyone, but the dreams were so vivid and real sometimes it was hard to tell when I was asleep and awake (although part of that could have been the run of 20 hour days).

Most of the guys who were in Africa for more than a year didn't take anything, and when they got malaria they just had it treated. Apparently (and I *AM NOT* a Doctor) your count can be brought back to zero, and the myth about once getting it always having it has been dispelled.

Of course, don't take my word for it, but see a doc who is well versed in the tropics. Odds are your GP isn't.
