I used to dive at Marineland in 1989, before the general public realized the beach access was open. There was a large Torpedo ray that used to check me out, then stay within 50 feet of me throughout the dive. I saw him on at least 15 seperate dive. In the January, 1991 issue of CA diving news, there was a cover story about Marineland. The first Saturday after it came out was a madhouse. There were at least 75 divers at Marineland. One bright fellow shot the Torpedo Ray and proudly displayed it in the bed of his truck. He had the nerve to ask me if it was edible. A very large diver overheard this question, and proceded to step on the guy's speargun and snap it in two.
