I am sure there more than a few of us that had the same issue. For me, once I took off my mask, I had to really concentrate on proper breathing. Hated that skill.

This skill is a necessary one, as you may lose your mask at some time during a dive (thanks to buddy's fin). My suggestion is to let your instructor know about your apprehension prior to the next open water dive. He/She may have some pointers. Otherwise, relax, think about the skill, and you should be fine.

If I remember correctly, you only have to remove the mask, there is no time set for how long it needs to be off. Put it right back on and clear your mask as you have been shown.
