We did it a couple of years ago. Although we had no problems with TACA, I would do it differently. When we took our trip, there weren't any direct flights from LAX to Roatan. So we ended up taking several planes. The first stopped in San Salvador. The second stopped in La Cieba on the Honduran mainland. Then the last plane (a twin turbo puddle-jumper) took us to Roatan. The flight just took forever. If I had to do it over again, I'd just book a cheap domestic flight to Houston and take a direct flight to Roatan. I doubt it would be cheaper, but it sure would be faster.
