They're difficult to predict. Last year's run was the best I've ever seen. The Moon certainly helps, as do the lights of the squid boats. I don't know if Redondo Canyon is the best, but it certainly is the easiest. Easy entry with smaller surf than the areas surrounding it, the dropoff into the canyon is close to shore, just beyond the end of the pier, and a cold, make that icy shower to rinse off after the dive.
