The only time we were at Malibu was around the Topanga Canyon area. The whole dive was sandy bottom out to about 100 yards - and only 20' deep. The vis sucked and the surge was strong - I guess we timed it wrong. A buddy of ours told us that it was a good place for lobster ... but considering all the sand and no reef/rock system we couldn't see what he was talking about. We did see a lot of small leopard sharks though :)
