I keep my weather eyes open 24-7-365, and never just 'go for it' (except on occasion)

SBI lives in a different world than Nicolas. Nicolas can be extremely inhospitable in bad weather. Depending on the conditions, there may not be any suitable place to get out of the weather. The wind and seas are very predictable and generally the same at SBI, Catalina, and San Clemente Islands. Generally, if the conditions are good for Catalina, they are good for SBI. One nice thing about SBI, there is the Santa Monica basin buoy that gives you the wind and sea conditions on the way out, no matter where you are coming from.

If i were to offer a suggestion, it would be simply to know your boat, and know the weather. Look at the weather sites every day as a matter of routine.

The good skiff is a 19ft wooden flatbottom skiff that is powered with a 100hp tiller engine.
