First, I don't think removal of the post is
sufficient punishment for those that break the rules.
They've made their point, most of the regulars have
seen it by the time it gets deleted, so there are
no real consequences, so you haven't affected their
future behavior. On ba_diving, we don't have
a profanity problem at all. Folks know I'll kick
them off if they break the rules. I've had to kick
off two locals for breaking the rules, and several
spamsters (we have a no commercial posts rule).
Also, note that ba_diving doesn't ban profanity,
we just don't have any.

Secondly, don't delete them. Move them to another
directory that's not web acessible. I'm sure you
have a shells script for the deletes, just change
the delete to a move. This way if some one says
"WHAT profanity", you can quote chapter and verse.

Third, tell the poster that it was removed and why.
If they don't know it was removed, it certainly
won't affect their future behavior.

Finally, while I don't think gratutituous profanity
is good, occasionally it's appropriate.

Chuck
