I have made many trips across the channel in an 18' v hull and a 20' flat bottom skiff in 6-8' swell and had no problems. It's not the swell that will get you, its the wind waves and the wind is supposed to be favorable this weekend. Slightly off shore, might even knock the swell down. Just head over early before the winds are even an issue.
