For those who may have had the opportunity to dive the shore waters of
Monterey Bay along Cannery Row and the Breakwater...the man who is almost
single handily has battled for your right to have access to those water for
divers, will be remembered this coming Saturday afternoon.
Without his leadership and vitality for our diving community...Monterey
diving access most likely would have succumbed to National, State and local
bureaucracy many years ago. On Saturday we reflect on his accomplishments.

The following information is passed from Berkley at Backscatter Photo...

Captain Ed Cooper's Memorial Service
Saturday, Feb 15th

12:00 PM Eulogy Service - San Carlos Beach (Breakwater)
The very existence of San Carlos Park and Rickett's Underwater Park is due
to years of hard work by Ed. It will be a fitting tribute for us to pay our
respects at a place he helped preserve for all to enjoy. A limited number of
chairs will be reserved for family. The Eulogy will be delivered by
Commander Dean Lee of the United States Coast Guard. Please bring your own
chair if you require one and plan for the potential of rain.

3:00 PM Boat Escort - Ashes Ceremony
If you have your own boat and would like to escort the family to Lover's
Point, please be on the water and waiting outside the harbor by 2:30PM. The
family will be aboard the Cypress Sea and will lead the way to Lover's at
3:00PM. The Beach Hopper will lead the escort and carry a bagpiper for the
ceremony. Please do not pass the Beach Hopper and allow the family easy
passage. Others may cheer the procession from Cannery Row and Lover's
Point. A large boat might become available for boarding at the Breakwater
fuel dock. If interested, please email sales@backscatter.com.

5:00 PM Celebration Party - Pirates Cove, Del Monte Beach
Ed asked that we have "one hell of a party" and we will. Please bring food,
photos, and fond memories to share as we celebrate the life and
accomplishments of our diving community patriarch.

Book of Memories
Please plan on entering your thoughts and memories of Ed into a book to be
given to his children. Scribe your message in ink or bring pre-printed text
and photos for insertion in the album as a gift to Justin and Tiffany.
Monetary contributions to cover expenses will also be collected at the
evening celebration. Late submissions can be sent to Backscatter.

Happy and Safe Diving...
