NO--I did in the 70's. prefer the SPG by far. Remeber the needle gauge?

Your buddy had to look on the back of your valve to see where the needle was, and then let you know how much air you had left by holding up a finger like it was the needle, then using another finer point out how far it was sticking out of the valve. Full, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4. It was OK unless 1. the needle was stuck, 2. No buddy.
