Come on , Gremlin/Pinto that's not a fair analogy for J valves. Pintos exploded and killed people because of a faulty gas tank or something. Have J valves killed anyone? No. Has the piece of equipment that lead to the J valve phase out the SPG left unaware divers without gas or a reserve? Yes. A better analogy would have been J valve to an emergency brake on a car. Can't hurt you but could save you. I'm not suggesting replacing the SPG but adding back the reserve capablitiy that the valve.
