Darcy,

Not a good boat for Rosa or Miguel. You might wait for summer and then do a preliminary weekend at Santa Cruz just to get a feel for the area. You can very easily run from the west end of Cruz to Rosa in a hour or so. Rosa and Miguel can be absolutely great when the weather is good but either can go to hell in about 20 minutes when they decide to. I've done both in a small boat and when the wind blows and the swell comes up it can get downright scary in just a few minutes and there's nowhere to run.

In any event, you will be running broach (perpendicular to the wind and waves) from Santa Barbara down to the Islands. If you do want to get out there the best time is late fall (September is usually the best).

Ray
