You might want to reconsider Rosa, or Miguel. They can both be fairly inhospitable. Spring will be about the worst time for high continuous NW winds that make these outer islands not fun. Since both are out of the shadow of Pt. Conception they get the full brunt of the W/NW winds flowing down the coast.
Fall/Early winter is about the best time to get out there, except you MUST watch for the "Devil Winds" or better known as the "Santa Ana" winds.
You should try Santa Barbara Is. It is only about an hour from Catalina's West End, & it is a beautiful place. Plus you can land on the island, & the diving/freediving is beautiful!

Have fun, & be safe. (Have Vessel Assist?)
