San Clemente Island can be great diving even if you can't find the right ship with both hands.
Normally, the boat crew has more to do with the quality of the diving than who does the charter, though I am leary of going on boats that classes are on.
One for certain, Sport Chalet classes do not dictate the experience level of the dive master that goes on the dive. I have met amazingly experienced dive masters on Sport Chalet trips to places like Cortez.
