had a nice dive this friday morning. went to escondido creek in malibu and was in the water by 8:30am. there wasn't much of a surf to speak of. we swam straight away from the stairs till we reached the outer kelps. the vis was a good 15 feet and quite a bit more further out. water temp was at 55 and the max depth was no more than 35 fsw. total dive time 1hr 16min. on a steel 80.
we descended next to a sheep crab as we headed west. entered the kelp forest and ran into a school of senoritas. as we pass the school we see female sheepheads (did not see any males), varying sizes of kelp bass and sand bass. black eyed gobies were darting in and out of their hiding places, the lobsters were out (they knew we were only sightseeing) and a yellow nudibranch was crossing the sandy area. on the return we pass by a school of sargo and a clump of juvenile shrimp (can't tell what kind). surface at less than 10 fsw. a great way to start the day. enjoy the diving everyone.
