I have a silly question and hope for indulgence by my fellow divers. I am adding a new Laser Engraver / Marking System to my shop. As I am putting together the planned work load for this piece of equipment, I started to consider laser marking dive equipment (like engraving names and images on gun stocks or marking metals is done now). This would be permanently etching, or engraving, identification into gear. I was thinking of marking items such as regs, camera gear, etc. I think it would be a good way to deter theft or mistaken identity.
Does anyone think this is worthwhile? And if you do, is it just a good idea, but not something you would ever pay for? Just curious to see if anyone cares about such things before I make the tooling or plan on marking any gear other than my own.
