Also, I wouldn't be in a huge hurry to get all of your equipment just yet. Although if you're going to be doing much diving around here, I would absolutely recommend you get yourself a nice, warm (7mm) wetsuit that fits you really, really well as soon as possible. That will go a long way towards making you comfortable.

As far as buying other equipment goes, I would recommend you rent for at least the first few local dive trips, that way you'll have time to check out what other divers are using. Don't be shy, ask lots of questions. Everyone has their favorite stuff, but if you don't find out WHY it's their favorite stuff, it will be hard for you to figure out if that piece of equipment would be right for you too.
